Water Garden Tip of the Month...
The most common error people make when designing or building a water garden is to make it too small! Larger water gardens are more stable, easier to maintain and you will have room for plants, fish, fountains, spouters, underwater lighting and other accessories that you may wish to add.
If you have already outgrown your pond, an easy way to enlarge is to use your pond as the upper or lower pool or a two pond system separated by a falls or stream/falls combo. Not near a slope? You can always build the new pool above grade using cement blocks...We can offer details if you're interested
Pond Problem?
Brown Water....As fish ponds and water gardens age, soil, mulch and plant debris build up at the edges and begin to wash into the pond when it rains or you water. This is very common and although a good filter can keep up with the debris and suspended particles for a while, it will eventually become necessary to clean up the edges outside the pond or raise the edge of the pond above the debris.
Landscape Tip of the Month...
Many are unaware, but late summer and fall are actually as good a time to do landscape work as is the spring. Fall is also the best time of year for transplants so if you are interested in refurbishing an existing planting, give us a call to book for fall.
Did you remember to...
Most shrubs and perennials flower better if superphosphate is added to the soil this year for next year's blossoms. It's easy to do - just sprinkle 0-20-0 (superphosphate) around the perimeter of your flowering plant and water or rake it into the soil.
