your landscape and budget.

Walls may be purely decorative, an attractive way to retain a slope or an excellent way to level a slope for a patio. Here are some favorites...

This wall is only 12" high, but an excellent way to end the landscaped part of the yard.

This fieldstone wall was a decorative touch to a front yard and a great way to separate the landscaped area from the road.

The cut through the wall is for the front walk.

walls, patios
A misstep and you could roll down the hill into the lake!
This yard had a useless slope in front of the back porch before a retaining wall and patio made it a popular area for relaxing and cookouts.

walls, patios
The walls allowed us to cut into the slope and create a nice patio.
timber wall
Rain would run down the slope and flood the yard.
The lawnmower kept tumbling over on this huge slope that ran across an extire yard... Terraced walls of stone and lansdcape timbers solved the problem and offered plenty of planting space.

The planted terraces soak up the rain, eliminate mowing and look beautiful when the plants are in bloom.
before the wall
The slope in front of this cottage was an ongoing problem for years.
This cottage has a beautiful view of the lake, but you had to spend more time watching that you don't fall off the deck and tumbling down the hill! A terrace of block wall topped by a stone wall took care of the problem and really dressed up up the yard. before the wall
It was both unattractive and dangerous for children,

finished wall
The lower wall is architectual block and the upper is from stones plucked from the slope.

The end of the wall curves to flow into the slope - Note the terracing effect of the upper wall.

The design of this end allows a small planting area next to the stairs.
